Cape Town Boudoir - Miss. L

As a child I was a little dumpling. I was well fed and slightly larger than the other girls. But I was happy.

Then I lost all the “puppy fat” in high school and became extremely lean. I was active and confident yet didn’t appreciate the body I had. Everyone says enjoy your body in your teens and twenties as it’s the best you will ever have. I didn’t listen.

I mistreated my body and took it for granted that I would always look “this good”.

I then joined the corporate world and pushed myself to the maximum. I was eating badly, drinking way to much coffee and not exercising. Stress ran my life as I allowed it to.

I needed surgery for cysts and endometriosis and after the surgery over a period of 3 years I gained 17KGs.

I was unhealthy with border line insulin resistance, heart palpitations and low body confidence. I didn’t want to look at myself in the mirror or change in front of my partner.

I felt there was nothing I could do and even walking up a flight of stairs was hard work.

Then it hit me, I am in control of my own life and body. I have to take the first step to regaining my body confidence.

I changed my diet, I started going to gym and walking and followed a strict eating plan with assistance.

Today, I am 15KGs lighter and I have learnt to embrace my lumps, bumps and new body.

Embracing who you are allows a certain aura to shine from you that only others can see.

There will always be someone bigger, smaller and better than you – all you need to focus on is being the best version of yourself.

Because that’s all that matters – ensuring you feel happy with you.

Cape Town Maternity Shoot

Let me start off by saying, I LOVE Simone! From the moment we began setting up dates for the boudoir photoshoot I could tell I was going to really enjoy myself because of her warm spirit she gives off the moment you begin conversation with her!

As the week approached to the shoot she was awesome at checking in with me and going over ideas for what to wear!

I went into our pregnancy shoot feeling pretty awkward and not exactly confident about documenting my ever growing body, but Simone made me feel very comfortable and relaxed.

Simone continuously reassured me how great I looked in front of the camera which seriously helped my confidence with being sexy!

One of my favorite pregnancy quotes I have come across is this one, and I thank Simone for capturing me in this very special time of my life.

“To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited. Soul and spirit are stretched - along with body - making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.”

Every woman should go for a boudoir shoot at least once in her life and I strongly recommend Simone.

My pictures are beyond amazing and I am going to treasure them for years to come.

E M B R A C E - Celebrating Woman Upliftment

Our hearts and hands join together to bring you something truly exceptional. But first, we thought we should share a bit of our own body confidence journeys with you all: an open, intimate and honest conversation.

In my earlier years as child and teenager growing up we had loads of influences on what the perfect woman’s body should look like. I for one definitely didn’t have the smallest build and for sure didn’t fit that mold. I grew quite insecure about this, as friends would say negative things about my weight all the time. I grew skinnier and skinnier as time went by because of all these insecurities, but my confidence didn’t rise, even when I was at my skinniest there were still those remarks from others.  “Woow you are too skinny now” So what was the perfect body I asked myself? People for some reason always had something negative to say what ever size I was.

Following that, for years being so aware of this I noticed how woman brought each other down, weather it was for their looks, body shape or fashion.

Why were women doing that to each other?

Why are woman still doing that?

As I got older and more confident I realized that as you get to know yourself, it was more about how you make your body work for you, accentuating the positive rather than focusing on the negative.

What do you love about your body? That’s the question so many woman struggle with. What you love about your body needs to be priority in your mind.

I even started believing it more and more when I started doing boudoir photography and seeing what it was doing.

The reason I started falling in love with what I do, is because I saw how a woman once helped with poses, complemented, or showed what angles work best in what light, immediately brightened up and started seeing themselves as beautiful and confident .She then saw her power she became empowered, and just in that moment her whole posture, attitude and body confidence changed.

Because of these experiences I noticed that by uplifting someone, being encouraging and completive could really change the way that she sees herself, even with myself I could see it in my own confidence.

We as woman need to see that it is within ourselves to empower and uplift each other.

We need to start standing together, complementing each other, teaching each other how to love and embrace our bodies, whatever shape you are in or journey your body is on, because with confidence you are empowered.

EMBRACE was born from all these experiences and sharing similar views with a fellow artist Maria Magdaglena. We collaborated on this project on celebrating body confidence and believing in woman upliftment .

Embrace represent us woman celebrating the upliftment of each other and creating a community a friendship a movement where woman stand together to be proud of our bodies celebrate it whatever journey it’s on or story it has to tell.

Always remember everybody has a STORY , what is yours…

Cape Town Boudoir - Miss. B

For years I connected body confidence to either being super skinny or ripped from extreme training programs to extreme diet putting my body through massive pressure.

Four years ago my personal confidence and body confidence took an immense dip due to rejection.  I thought I wasn’t good enough, pretty enough to be loved and appreciated for who I am and how I looked. Due to this I lost a large amount of weight in a short amount of time.  Now I was feeling better and more confident so I started picking up weight again, more rejection took place and before I could stop it I gained so much weight and everything just spiralled out of control. My sugar level was out of control and no matter what I did I kept on putting on weight.  After some tests and medication we got this under control and actually just avoided diabetes.

Due to this I taught myself to follow a healthy life style without being too extreme………the 80% / 20% rule where you can still allow yourself to live and have fun.

Currently I am NOT the skinniest I have ever been but the happiest, and believe me I have some curves and bumps all over but I have realized that how I look does not define the person I am!  I have learnt how to feel happy and confident in my own skin and I want all woman out there to experience this and realize your value is not connected to how you look but how you make yourself feel.

I wanted to celebrate my body and give back!! A powerhouse of a friend and amazing photographer suggested that I do a boudoir shoot with her, I was terrified!!  But this was the best way to celebrate and love my body and show that by mere confidence in her will bring out the beauty I neglected to notice for years.

Days leading to my shoot Simone prepped me and made me feel beautiful with messages and tips.  On the day I hesitate and thought I will not be able to go thought with this until she stepped in. She made this the easiest and best experience in my life by far. I felt beautiful every step of the way and I would recommend this to any women out there.

Ladies celebrate your body every day!! Fill your body with love, kindness and happiness. Surround yourself with same minded people daily. Your tribe defines your vibes.

Being a woman is a privilege and treat yourself that way.
